Kickers Offenbach, Associazione Sportiva Roma and TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen icon Rudolf Völler was born in Hanau on 13th April 1960. In a playing career which spanned 21 years from 1975 to 1996, Voller made 541 appearances and scored 257 goals. After scoring on his Germany debut against N.Ireland in November 1982, he went on to make 90 appearances and score 47 goals for his country. Völler is currently Leverkusen’s Director of Football, a post he has held since September 2005, having previously been player and manager.
Rudi Voller started his career at Kickers Offenbach in July1975, breaking into the first-team In 1977 and making a total of 73 league appearances and scoring 19 goals for the club. After leaving Offenbach In July1980, Völler moved to TSV 1860 München, going on to make 70 appearances. After leaving TSV 1860 Munchen In July 1982, Völler moved to Werder Bremen, going on to make 137 appearances. After leaving Werder Brernen In July1987, Völler moved to AS Roma, going on to make 142 appearances. During his time with Germany and Associazione Sportiva Roma. Völler’s team lifted the FIFA World Cup In 1990 and the TIM Cup in 1991.
After leaving AS Roma in July1992, Völler moved to Olympique de Marseille, going on to make 57 appearances. Völler’s Olympique de Marsellle team lifted the UEFA Champions League In 1993. He finally decided to hang up his boots at the age of 36 In June 1996 after two years playing for Leverkusen, but there was no intention to leave the game he loved.
Leverkusen were also keen for Völler to stay in football and offered him the role of director of football which he held until June 2000. After leaving Leverkusen, Völler took charge at Germany where he stayed until June 2004.
VoIIer’s life-long love affair with Leverkusen won through in October 2000 however and he returned to the Leverkusen once more to take up the position of interim manager. A break from football lasting 4 years then followed with Völler’s next role as manager at AS Roma beginning in August 2004.

Voller has also earned recognition from the footballing community for his achievements: Named Euro U-21 Championship Golden Boot runner-up, won the Euro U-21 Championship Best Player, German Bundesliga Top Goalscorer, German Footballer of the Year, European Championship Golden Boot runner-up and German Manager of the Year third place.
