Real Madrid Club de Futbol Icon Fernando Ruiz Hierro was born In
Vélez-Málaga on 23rd March 1968. In a playing career which spanned 22 years
from 1983 to 2005. Hierro made 545 appearances and scored 109 goals. After
scoring on his Spain debut against Poland In September 1989. he went on to make
89 appearances and score 29 goals for his country.
Fernando Hierro began his career at Vélez C.F. In 1983/84. After leaving
Vélez C.F. In 1984. Hierro moved to C.D. Málaga where he remained for a year.
Hierro returned to Vélez C.F. in 1985 where he stayed a further two years.
After leaving Vélez C.F. in 1987. Hierro moved to Real Valladolid, going on to
make 58 appearances.
After leaving Real Valladolid in July 1989. Hierro moved to Real Madrid.
going on to make 439 appearances. During his time with Real Madrid. Hierro's
team lifted the Liga BBVA In 1990, 1995, 1997, 2001 and 2003. the
Intercontinental Cup In 1998 and 2002. won the UEFA Champions League 3 times
between 1998 and 2002, the UEFA Super Cup in 2002. the Copa del Rey in 1993 and
the Supercopa de Espana 4 times between 1990 and 2001.
After leaving Real Madrid in 2003. Hierro moved to Al-Rayyan, going on to
make 19 appearances. Hlerro’s Al-Rayyan team lifted the Qatar Crown Prince Cup
In 2004. Hierro finally hung up his boots at the age of 37 In May 2005
following a short spell with Bolton Wanderers where he made 29 appearances.
Hierro’s first non-playing role was as Spain’s director of football, a
position he held from July 2010 until June 2011. In July 2011 he took up the
position of Malaga director which he held until May 2012.
Hierro began his 2nd spell with Spain in July 2012 as he took up the
position of director of football. Hierro began his 2nd spell with Real Madrid in
July 2014 as he took up the position of assistant manager.
