AFC Ajax and Arsenal FC legend Dennis Nicolaas Maria Bergkamp was born in Amsterdam on 10th May 1969. In a playing career which spanned 20 years ftom 1986 to 2006, Bergkamp made 552 appearances and scored 201 goals. Bergkamp made his senior debut playing for AFC Ajax against Roda Kerkrade on 14th December1986. After scoring on his Holland debut against Italy in September1990. he went on to make 79 appearances and score 37 goals for his country. Bergkamp is currently AFC Ajax’s Coach. a post he has held since July 2009.
Bergkamp began his career at AFC Ajax in 1986/87, making a total of 185 league appearances and scoring 103 goals for the club. During his time with AFC Ajax. Bergkamp’s team lifted the Eredivisie in 1990. the European Cup Winners Cup in 1987 and 1992 and won the KNVB Beker in 1987 and 1993. After leaving AFC Ajax in August 1993, Bergkamp moved to lnternazionale, going on to make 52 appearances. Bergkamp’s Internazionale team lifted the European Cup Winners Cup in
1994.
Bergkamp was to finish his playing career at Arsenal at the age of 37, making 315 appearances for the Arsenal and scoring 87 goals between June 1995 and June 2006. During his time with Arsenal, Bergkamp’s team lifted the Barclays Premier League in 1998, 2002 and 2004. the FA Cup 4 times between 1998 and 2005 and won the FA Community Shield 4 times between 1998 and 2004. Dennis Bergkamp’s first non-playing role was as AFC Ajax’s coach. During his time with AFC Ajax. Bergkamp’s team lifted the Eredivisie in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and the Johan Cruijff Schaal in 2013.
Bergkamp has been recognised for his talent and achievements with several awards: Won the Dutch Young Player of the Year, Eredivisie Top Goalscorer on three occasions. European Championship Golden Boot third place, FIFA Ballon D’Or third place, World Player of the Year runner-up on three occasions, won the English Footballer of the Year and English Players’ Player of the Year.
