Real Madrid Club de Futbol legend Zinedine Yazid Zidane was born In Marseille on 23rd June 1972. In a playing career which spanned 20 years from 1986 to 2006, Zidane made 505 appearances and scored 96 goals. After scoring on his France debut against Czech Republic in August 1994, he went on to make 108 appearances and score 31 goals for his country. The former Real Madrid Castilla employee has been manager at Real Madrid since July 2015.
Zinedine Zidane started his career at Association Sportive Cannes Football in 19887, breaking into the first-team in 1988 and making a total of 61 league appearances and scoring 6 goals for the club. After leaving AS Cannes in July1992, Zidane moved to Girondins de Bordeaux. going on to make 139 appearances. Zidane’s Girondins de Bordeaux team lifted the EURO Vase in 1995.
After leaving Girondins de Bordeaux in July1996, Zidane moved to Juventus, going on to make 150 appearances. During his time with Juventus Football Club Torino and France, Zidane’s team lifted the Serie A TIM in 1997 and 1998, the FIFA World Cup in 1998, won the UEFA European Championship in 2000, the Intercontinental Cup in 1996, the UEFA Super Cup in 1997, the EURO Vase in 1999 and the Supercoppa TIM in 1997.
He finally decided to hang up his boots at the age of 34 in June 2006 after five years playing for Real Madrid, but there was no intention to leave the game he loved. During his time with Real Madrid, Zidanes team lifted the Liga BBVA In 2003, the Intercontinental Cup in 2002, won the UEFA Champions League in 2002, the UEFA Super Cup In 2002 and the Supercopa de Espana in 2001 and 2003.
Real Madrid were also keen for Zidane to stay in football and offered him the role of director of football which he held until June 2013. A spell as an assistant manager for Real Madrid followed in June 2013. In July2014 he took up the position of Real Madrid Castilla manager which he held until July2015. Zidane then moved on to become manager at Real Madrid. Zidane’s Real Madrid team lifted the UEFA Champion's League In 2016.
Zidane has been recognised for his talent and achievements with several awards: Won the World Cup Best Player, Ligue 1 RevelatIon of the Year, Ligue 1 Players’ Most Promising Player, Serie A Player of the Year runner-up on two occasions, won the F1FA Ballon d’Or, World Player of the Year, French Player of the Year on two occasions, European Championship Best Player, Itailan Media Foreign Player of the Year and Spanish League Player of the Year third place.
