Arsenal FC legend Thierry Daniel Henry was born in Les Ulis on 17th August 1977. In a playing career which spanned 21 years from 1993 to 2014, Henry made 572 appearances and scored 284 goals. After scoring on his France debut against South Africa in October1997, he went on to make 123 appearances and score 51 goals for his country. Henry is currently Arsenal’s Under 21s Coach, a post he has held since July2015.
Thierry Henry started his career at Association Sportive de Monaco Football Club in 1993/94, breaking into the first-team in 1994 and making a total of 102 league appearances and scorIng 20 goals for the club. During his time with Association Sportive de Monaco Football Club and France, Henry’s team lifted the Ligue 1 in 1997, the Trophée des champions in 1997 and won the FIFA World Cup in 1998. After leaving AS Monaco in January 1999, Henry moved to Juventus where he made 10 appearances and scored 3 goals.
After leaving Juventus in August 1999, Henry moved to Arsenal, going on to make 254 appearances. During his time with Arsenal FC and France, Henry’s team lifted the Barclays Premier League in 2002 and 2004, the Confederations Cup in 2003, won the UEFA European Championship in 2000, the FA Cup 3 times between 2002 and 2005 and the FA Community Shield in 2002 and 2004.
After leaving Arsenal in 2007, Henry moved to FC Barcelona, going on to make 80 appearances. During his time with FC Barcelona, Henry’s team lifted the Liga BBVA in 2009, the UEFA Champions League in 2009 and won the Copa del Rey in 2009. He finally decided to hang up his boots at the age of 37 in December 2014 after four years playing for New York Red Bulls, but there was no intention to leave the game he loved. During this time he also spent time on loan at Arsenal
FC, making 4 league appearances and scoring one goal. Henry’s New York Red Bulls team lifted the Supporters’ Shield in 2013.
Thierry Henry’s first non-playing role was as Arsenal’s Under 21s coach.
Henry has been recognised for his talent and achievements with several awards: Won the Ligue 1 Revelation of the Year, Ligue 1 Players’ Most Promising Player, French Youth Invitational Best Player, French Youth Invitational Top Goalscorer, European Champions Cup Golden Boot runner-up, named French Player of the Year on five occasions, English Premier Division Top Goalscorer on four occasions, European Golden Shoe on two occasions, English Players’ Player of the Year on two occasions, English Footballer of the Year on three occasions, Confederations Cup Top Goalscorer, Confederations Cup Best Player, FIFA Ballon d’Or runner-up and World Player of the Year runner-up.
